Welcome to "The Old Man's Shop"!

All this, for the most part, is just a collection in one place of the many videos that have been posted to YouTube over the last three years and more. The focus is almost entirely on engineering type subjects although way back we used to post all sorts of miscellaneous material over several years.

Yours truly (ChrisB257) moved to the U.S.A. from the UK in 2000 and is a proud naturalized American - albeit still retaining the old accent most of the time! The previous shop equipment was all but sold off before moving (and is much missed), although the 5 1/2" swing "Littlejohn" lathe, drill press, and a lot of other ''stuff'' was still kept - which gave the movers some real headaches! For many years the shop here was pretty much just a potential facility, until about two to three years ago when we actually started to make some fruitful use of it and start slowly to expand the facility.

♦♦♦  Currently, we are able to offer a limited service, dealing with primarily small scale work involving "one of" jobs, light fabrications, repairs, development etc. For any queries on this site or if seeking feedback on a possible job, just contact us directly - or, via our YouTube Channel page - leave us a message..

Early shop type videos were simply based on a sort of walk-around as well as running through some of the various "Gadgets and Gizmos" made many years ago. The camera used originally was a bit basic as well as the technique - focus often sadly very poor and framing and camera mounting way too often rather lacking. We hope this can be seen to have gradually gotten better over time, but there is still a lot of room for further improvements. A new camera has almost certainly helped as well as general videographic practice and editing, but like most things, results are never seen as adequate. We strive to improve.

Although you can obviously go to YouTube to see these videos, as you may well already have done, it seems useful to put them here as a collection which is indexed - the search upper right can help locate items. This may make finding specifics a bit easier too, as well as being a convenient place where we can add any other occasional items of interest - a sort of 'old man's home' if you will. NOTE: Useful addition - Pictures from pages of an old 'Little John' lathe manual - plus parts pages.

To find various machining oriented subjects - go to the Shop Videos Index, Page One, and start from there to view your choice of options. However, note: - Page One is covering our very earliest material - from there you can of course progress to newer pages. Scroll down through Page Nine to find our most recent videos. There's also by the way, a small index of Miscellaneous Items which may contain even a few "imports" if considered worth keeping here for reference. Over time we'll hope to make more additions. You can use our YouTube Channel'about' page for leaving a message or use the direct email : . If you find any glitches - please let us know. Hope you enjoy your visit.

SMALL ADDITION - to help those wanting to renovate a leg vise but having no spring or mount block etc - on the leg vise video page, we have added a few closer pics which it is hoped will help give some info for making copies .... just scroll down the page. It may be possible to use a leaf from an old leaf spring (soften, work, then carefully re-harden) to make the spring, and possibly fabricate a mount block, strap, and wedges etc.
