Steady Finger Mods - Screw-up!! Try to mill old fingers to take cam rollers - but screw up on one so - back to drawing board!
Mkl Ball Turner Part One We start the project, mainly making a dedicated T-nut and some plans for the remainder.
Mkl Ball Turner Part Two This stage was mainly milling out a center slot for toolpost slider, plus a relief one side.
Mkl Ball Turner Part Three - 1st Test Finish some milling and drilling and try it out. It works but with limitations.
Mkl Ball Turner - mods needed Some changes needed with pivot rigidity (lack of), and tool profile for rear of ball access.
Mkl Ball Turner, Pin modification 1 The first try to improve rigidity with regard to the swivel pin free play.
Mkll Ball Turner Build Pt 1 Started the build, utilizing a boring head threaded on a tool post shaft, mounted in a block.
Mkll Ball Turner Build Pt 2 Completion of the main build, with making of a boss and handle etc
Mkll Ball Turner, 1st Test Demo Time to test the device, but making do initially with a boring bar which is not ideal at all.
Mkl Ball Turner, Pin modification 2 We try another modification to reduce overall 'slop' previously experienced.
Mkll Ball Turner Re-tooled Tried some different tooling instead of the less than useful boring bar!
Taper Turning Attachment Just a look and description of the attachment that came with the "Little John".
Steady Fingers Ball Race 1 We make the first finger -- milled slot for bearing and axle pin and use our dividing head.
Steady Fingers Ball Race 2, Test Finish threading, set-up and test. Function very adequate in the end.
Gravity Feed Mill Oil Decided to use similar approach to one used on lathe -- ability to have drip supply when needed.
Foot Operated Air Blast Made from available stuff - in order to have a convenient means to sometimes clear milling chips.
A Rifle Butt Plate A fiddly but interesting project - with a lot of hand work, and patience!
Centering Roller Tool Copied from Frank Ford, on frets.com. Very simple but useful gizmo to have on hand.
Magnetic 'Picker-Upper' Almost a copy of Tubal Cain's device but used different materials. Works well.
Mkll Ball Turner, more re-tooled Yet another quick try of different tooling - not very successful.
Mkll Ball Turner - Vertical Tried this, just for the hell of it! Interesting to try but rigidity inadequate.
A Simple Vise Stop A simple vise stop from scrap - to suit the specific lightweight vise.
Weld Table Castor Base Managed to fit an unused "Shop Fox" base to weld table for easy mobility.
Mkll Ball Turner Re-tooled, Again! Tried a new grind, temporarily with a piece of drill. Getting better even with cross slide method.
Shars Swivel/tilt Vise 1st Use. A very robust, budget price, versatile vise which we evaluate for the first time.
The 0704 Y-axis Problem It was discovered that the Grizzly mill's Y-axis was metric - and not inch as specified! Needs corrected.
MKll Ball Turner - Final The latest tooling seems to have done the trick. This time we adjust the boring head, with a locked cross slide.
TIG Welding Steady Device To avoid finding pieces of 2x4 when extra support height needed, we make a simple 'gadget'.
A TIG Steady - Addition The steady was modified by making an additional piece of cranked tube, to extend the overall height range.
Diamond Tool Holder A first very brief look at this tool holder system, which employs tangential cutting.
Updates and New Site launch Small updates, and we launch 'theoldmansshop.com/" - somewhere to keep all our videos together.
TIG Steady - One More Addition Welded a 'T' piece of square tube - something to increase adjustment options even better.
0704 Y-axis Leadscrew Swap At last, plucked up courage to make the change-over, from the metric to inch leadscrew threads.
Data on The Raglan 'Little John' We have scanned the Raglan manual pages, and also some parts pages as well, to create images for reference.
H Freight Blast Cabinet - First Look We assemble this unit and give it a trial run.
A Custom Chuck Adapter An adapter we make for a YouTuber who has no change wheels for threading.
The Lotos Plasma Cutter First time firing up - our novice status shows initially rather well! :)
DRO fit to 0704 - Part One We set about installing the X-axis components - which was a bit complicated!
DRO fit to 0704 - Part Two Now the easier bit - install the Y-axis parts and then test - successful.
The Easy T-Nut Cheat Many will have done this - 'modifying' a coach bolt to suit a light duty purpose to save time.
