To avoid marring steel parts we can use a hide or rubber mallet, copper hammer, and sometimes a brass hammer - all depending on what force is needed We did not have the latter and so, re-discovering a chunk of brass that used to be part of a large gate valve -- decided that making one would be a simple small project to make good use of the brass. That was turned down to a usable form for the head and some 3/4" spare steel round bar was used to make the handle. Some drilling, tap and die work plus knurling saw a fairly pleasing result. Now, it's too nice to use! |
