"Refreshing" Very Small Twist Drill Bits
| While small drill bits may not be overly expensive, it is frustrating to find impaired cutting sometimes. Here we try to show a simple method to extend life a bit - using diamond impregnated sharpening 'lapping tools' to allow for dressing the drill cutting edges, sufficient to get back a bit of extra cut and keep working. Not so easy to demonstrate but hopefully enough info here to get the general idea and keep those drills operational. This approach by the way can be used on small HSS lathe tools to just dress the cutting edge. Head band magnifier really helps. |
