Let us say that you need to create a crank pin on a piece of large round stock. Here, we set up a piece of round bar in the four jaw chuck, to turn a pin - which for our purposes could be a crank pin for - something! It's way off center and so setting up in itself presents some problems. We go through the process which here is tedious but - a method that can work. Ideally we go slow and generate a sequence of moves to achieve a result. Of course, we could have drilled and set a hardened pin - but this was much as anthing an excercise for the heck of it! A poor tripod and less than firm floor pick up movement unfortunately at times, worse on tight zooms. This was part of our early "Gadgets & Gizmos" series. |
