We covered a simple tap starter in Gadgets and Gizmos part 4 - here we show a method of starting threading dies from the tail stock. Like the tap starter, often a couple of 'bites' on a thread is all that is needed to achieve truth, after which a die stock can sometimes finish the job by hand. The other 'gizmo' covered in this video is a knurling device - a design that has many benefits, not least is reducing stresses on the headstock bearing as well as tail stock - this is because two knurling wheels 'straddle' the workpiece. |
