The file is a versatile tool and sometimes if machinery options do not permit something like a milling operation, then the file can come into play. Hand draw-filing can produce very fine results even if slow and a rather tedious. To file flats on a workpiece can sometimes be done usefully in the lathe and here we detail a simple device for guiding cut depth incrementally from a cross slide location. Division of the workpiece can be done using my rear headstock divider approach as mentioned in Gadgets and Gizmos Part 2. To finish this video we look at a simple item for holding a ruler against a flat surface and an even simpler scribing tool. |
