Lathe Ways Chip Wipers
| We were asked to come up with some wipers for a lathe with raised 'Vee' ways/rails.... 4 are required. The challenge, despite such a seemingly small and simple project, was to achieve enough stiffness for mounting, along with some sort of wiper, beneath which a layer of felt which could be kept oiled, and all that kept secure. Numerous ideas considered along the way - our usual 'suck-it-and-see approach with changes of mind as we went! Bit problematic trying to make 4 the same, without spending time on a special punch and die arrangement. End result it is hoped may do the job adequately. |
