To save effort, the plan is to motorize the column. Having ordered an inexpensive 9 RPM gearbox motor to try out, it turned out to be decidedly diminutive! However, it was deemed worth a try-out even if a failure and so we made a boss for the motor with a 'dog' to engage in the leadscrew top lock nut. End result - it actually is close to functional though predictably laboring on the column raise load -- it may be a slightly higher voltage can help, if the small motor itself can take it without burning out! Chances are we will go the windshield wiper motor route and hope to re-use the dog drive boss. |
